SyncWave — Universal TV Cast & Mirror App

A client came to us wanting a single product that could send anything from a phone to a television: video, photos, music, web pages and the phone screen itself — built once for both iOS and Android, and backed by its own website, domain and hosting.

What we built

We designed and built the app as SyncWave. The phone app discovers devices on the local Wi-Fi network and casts video, photos and music, casts from an in-app browser, casts YouTube, manages playlists and exposes Now Playing controls. On top of the casting engine we implemented real-time screen mirroring.

Because television platforms differ so widely in what they will accept, we also built a separate SyncWave TV receiver app for Google TV and Android TV sets, so the phone app has a first-party endpoint to talk to rather than depending entirely on third-party receivers. An in-app Cast diagnostics screen was added to make field debugging possible on the client's own hardware.

Brand and web presence

We produced a brand sheet with four icon directions, a palette and phone-size previews, then built the chosen icon out at every iOS and Android size and showed it on real home screens. The product site went live at syncwave.tv with downloads, a privacy policy and terms.

Testing on real hardware

Casting is only as good as it is on the set in the client's living room. We ran many debug builds directly against the client's Kogan Google TV, working through discovery and connection behaviour until the client confirmed casting connecting and a mirrored video playing on his own television.

Release status

The app was placed into Google Play internal testing for both SyncWave and SyncWave TV, and submitted to Apple's App Store review queue. Neither a public store listing nor monetisation forms part of this engagement: the free tier, trial and subscription tiers were scoped and agreed but explicitly were not built. The project remains in progress.
